27 March 2017 // Monday
Last standby of the month; not as lucky I guess.
They called me the night before at 8pm. They sure are early but I answered because its better than having them call me at 3am after all.
So I am doing MDC today. Fishy fishy!!
Crew and cic were nice so I happily went on the flight. Going up load was just comfortable but coming back was full.
On the way up it was a full service hence despite the comfortable load, we only had about 20mins of rest before commencing our service before landing. We had a quick bite and had to go for service again.
On the way back, during the boarding we all could already sense the bad feeling from the passengers. It wasn't going to be an easy flight. Our service took us 1.5 hours and since the flight time was 3 hours and we had to do our before landing service and hour before landing, we only less than 30mins of rest!
W ended up going for the service earlier than planned because even though the passengers just had their meals they were still constantly asking for drinks. Rather than walking up and down to deliver individual orders we decided to go ahead with a tray of drinks which is much more efficient.
The weather on the way back was pretty bumpy too, and many passengers who queued to use the toilet didn't manage to use it before the weather got worse. Despite multiple announcements and warnings to have them take a seat, they simply refused to budge.
Just then, the announcement came on, "Ladies and Gentlemen, this is your crew-in-charge speaking." We all grinned sheepishly to ourselves because our cic was nice enough to make the announcement for passengers to return to their seats. Guess what? They all obliged.
MDC is the longest Indonesia flight as compared to the shortest PLM. It was a long and draggy day but at least I'm off tomorrow!

Hate Morning Flights!
26 March 2017 // Sunday
No need me to mention how sucky working on a Sunday is, what's worse its a super early morning flight?
Since I stay pretty far away from the airport, I gotta wake up at 3am just for morning flights like the first HKT today.
Checked the crew and realized I was the only chinese crew! Cic was nice and let us choose positions to work at and since I was the most junior I didn't get a choice but just as I expected, all of them chose to work behind so I was left with S1 in jcl with cic. But cic was nice so I didn't mind at all.
Load in jcl was 9 for going up and 0 for coming back! But sadly ey was full on the way back so I am already expected to help them with service on the way back.
To add on to the misery of this freaking early flight, our departure was at remote bay and boarding from the back! This greatly increases the time required to complete boarding. Worse still, we had a shitty ground staff who cannot communicate properly... pfffff
On the way up a passenger in ey lost her phone so I took details from her and handed it to the ground staff in Phuket to take over. On the way back I helped them with meal service and once collection. As I was walking back to jcl once I was done, a passenger stopped me to ask how much does it cost by taxi from the airport to city? It was a pretty tough question for me since I seldom cab these days but I gave him a rough estimate and he thanked me for that.
Touched down at 11.30am. The rest of the day is my off day! Wheeeeee~

China Habits
24 March 2017 // Friday
So my one and only China flight for this month: Chongqing (CKG).
Never an easy flight when you see China. The chaos start from boarding where they all scramble to find their seats, change their seats, anyhow sit at other people's seats. I once briefed three passengers at the emergency row but turned out that three seats didn't belong to them after all.
Come on, your seat number is printed on your boarding passes, or you thought it was a free-seating flight? I can forgive you for that :)
But changing of seats? Even after multiple "warnings" telling them to change seats after take off, seemingly they never really get my point. Maybe I wasn't speaking Chinese? Hmm.
So the battle continues after take off. Other than rude remarks (like calling us "eh") and rude actions (like videoing everything we are doing and poking us whenever we walk past them), there's tons of side orders and I wonder how do these people hang out on a daily basis. So chaotic.
So one passenger told me she lost her gold bracelet and since she's quite nice I decided to help her (I'm kidding I still help them even if they are rude haha) so I took down her details and couldn't help wondering how could anyone even lose a 999k gold bracelet. And what's worse was that she didn't even know where she lost it. How to help her?
Another story about PPS comes in here. PPS passengers who love to book Economy seats but ask for Business Class privileges are a**holes. They know that we wouldn't outright reject them since they were of a "certain" status so passengers like my 5C insisted on using the jcl toilet (which obviously he shouldn't) but the annoying part was how he stood at jcl and refused to budge even though one crew "accidentally" rejected him, not knowing he was a PPS.
Whether or not they are a**holes, you judge.
On any China flight, also don't forget to keep a lookout on the toilet queue. Well actually the toilets. It looks like a battlefield after almost every other passenger. I wonder how do they actually use the toilet to make it so messy.
That's why we are cleaners onboard too :(

Finally PLM... hmmm muffins?
23 March 2017 // Thursday
Finally its my turn to do EY for PLM. If you've seen my previous blog post on my first PLM flight, I didn't get to work in EY so I didn't know what was going on behind. Today's officially my first then, and its a flight with my batchboy!
I chanced upon a post about him giving away this flight and told him not to since we were flying together. Its a really rare chance to get flights with our batchmates actually.
So our crew are nice and the load going up was light but coming back was full. No surprise that it was a whole group of Indonesian makciks and pakciks and it actually made me speak Malay throughout the whole flight (broken Malay actually). Every Chinese crew speaks a little Malay and every Malay crew speaks a little Chinese too. If not how to survive? Haha.
So PLM actually serves muffins instead of sandwiches like other refreshment flights and the muffins are so yummy! We had maple syrup muffins for the first sector and chocolate chip muffins for the second! Took home some to share with Hubby and I now want to do more flights serving muffins onboard haha!

Birthday Overnight
20 March 2017 // Monday
Day 4 of 4 finally... Though it was all pretty short flights its still tiring since I'm working shift work.
DRW overnight today and the load was pretty light. Roster was out today and I'm elated I got Cairns (CNS) flight again!
My last one was beginning of January and CNS is our only layover destination so of course everyone is looking forward to it. And what's better this time is that Hubby is going with me! Though the tickets are expensive but we've purchased it already so we can't wait for it to come!
Back to the flight anyway, it was a light load (80+ and 60+) so there really isn't much drama. Just that it was Captain's birthday tomorrow so we all bought a cake and our cic did a handmade card and bought the Baby Romper from duty free for Captain! The whole of the first sector was practically spent preparing for the surprise during transit.
And it was a surprise! Captain was surprised and shocked haha. The baby romper was signed by us as a memento's sake. Anyway his youngest child is already 4 years old too haha.
On the returning sector, there were a few Indian couples and one of the lady was using the washroom when I saw her slamming the toiler door while she was inside with the door half open. I asked if she was trying to come out because she seemed like she was having issues coming out and I realized that's because she was blocking the bi-fold toilet door that folds inwards to open.
I politely asked her to step back but she closed the door on me and opened again. I repeated to her to step back so I could open the door but she started stripping her sari in the toilet (what?) I stretched my hand in to gently push her back and finally she managed to exit. What a rescue mission.
All in all was good, supposedly there was ice cream service but turned out there wasn't (which is good news for us hehe) and we chatted throughout the night and were more than glad when we landed about 30 mins early!
Ta-da!

The Oven Ghost
19 March 2017 // Sunday
This flight today was given by another crew so I could do her Darwin (DRW) overnight tomorrow as well. She initially told me it was just Palembang (PLM) but later on realized it was a four sectors PLM-KUL. (nobody really likes four sectors anyway)
But when I reported for briefing the whole set of crew were glad to find out that our KL flight was cancelled and reduced to two sectors for us! Well it wasn't really cancelled, but since the load was overbooked like yesterday as well (142 over 138 on a A320), the company decided to switch the Airbus aircraft to a Boeing instead and we as crew cannot operate dual fleets in the same day. Therefore all we were left with is the PLM with the fairly light load of double digits, both ways.
Flight was short like a KL and most of the passengers on the going up sector could not speak English so I had a hard time communicating with them. They drink so much coffee and tea that my usual set of hot drinks is not sufficient for a 70% load.
And to mention something out of the blue... my oven kept initializing a 1-minutes dry heat process... which I have no idea why and how.
And nope, none of us heated anything. Three times.

Crazy KL
18 March 2017 // Saturday
So I was originally rostered HKT but the timing fell right over dinner time and I had a wedding dinner to attend to with Hubby so my boss very kindly assigned me this KL flight instead that comes back early.
Our set of crew were elated to find the going up load less than 50 but was appalled to find the returning sector overbooked (154 over 150 on a Boeing). Guess its time to fight war?
So the first sector was pretty comfortable for all I guessed but once we were done with collection the very next moment Captain asked to check the cabin for landing. We were greatly shocked because if this was a "just nice" flight with a load of 50+, what are we going to do on the way back when the load is three times more? Oh I don't really want to think about it.
Yeah and so we still had to face the 150 of them and me as S3, was practically excusing myself through passengers as I served coffee and tea for them. I kept glancing at my watch and cross checking how much more time we have before this short 45-min flight is landing.
Guess how long we did to finish the service? 10 minutes. We are so proud of ourselves.
Upon landing, we took a selfie together and I tried to airdrop the photos to one of my crew. Blame it on my fast fingers, I sent it to one of our passengers! I tried to airplane mode my phone immediately hoping it would cancel the sending. The last passenger who disembarked came to us and said, "I got your photo!" and I knew the salvage failed. We took another selfie with him but I didn't mange to get the photo from him.
But anyway KL is never for humans. Its for superheroes who wear the "Flight Stewardess" tag.

Shit Is Real
17 March 2017 // Friday
Start of my four days pattern Kuching (KCH) T_T I had swopped flights with another crew and failed to realized I had to work four days in a row until the change of flights (COF) has been reflected. Well, three short flights plus overnight shouldn't be that bad I guess? *fingers crossed*
Anyway, cic today just did the recent CTU with me when I was called up. On the going up sector, there is a Qualified PPS (mind that its the lowest tier of PPS Club) whom I shall name Mr Y whom our cic asked to handle with extra care since company is aware that he complains very easily. Thankfully everything went smoothly and although he didn't seemed pleased at all during disembarking, I suppose that no complaints is a good news too?
And not forgetting this family with their child who refused to be seated for landing. He looked about 8-9 years old and his mum said he was having a stomachache and refuse to take a seat. We were already preparing for landing so neither could I let him use the washroom. Not to mention how smelly the whole cabin was because of this kid (I'm not sure if he shitted or what) but I swear the whole cabin was stinking so bad.
After they disembarked I even found dark brown spots on the seat. Don't ask me what happened next. I'm already thinking of getting this flight over and done with~~~

15 March 2017 // Wednesday
Three sectors Cebu-Davao (CEB-DVO) today. Never a flight to look forward to but the load is pretty light today and it came as a surprise to all of us.
Flight was okay all in all, except that our service felt so draggy somehow. We only managed to grab a quick bite before finishing the service before landing.
Because two pack of bread (40pcs) fell out on ground we didn't manage to heat up enough breadrolls for service and this guy who didn't get his bread along with his meal was pretty upset since when we served the breadroll to him he had already finished his meal.
...... no comments on that.
But our cic was super nice and she even packed the jcl pralines for all of us! And I bought the A320 aircraft model for Hubby hehe.
A day flight sure is tiring but thankfully I have a off before and after this flight!

Chillax Overnight
12 March 2017 // Sunday
So its Changsha (CSX) overnight today and load going up is full but coming back was super light!
A passenger actually told me she was claustrophobic and asked me to guard her door whil she was in the toilet.
Other than the above excerpt, it really is a pretty peaceful flight. We had a good night's rest on the way back since all the passengers were asleep. But because I drank two cups of coffee I couldn't make my way into lalaland. Sitting there in the dark made me ponder about life and appreciate life.
We should all have such calming moments at times, right?

Standby Activation
10 March 2017 // Friday
So today's standby wasn't as lucky. I got called up for Chengdu (CTU) but I requested for other flights because doing this CTU will mean insufficient rest before my Siem Reap-Danang (REP-DAD) tomorrow. I specially changed my flights to do this 3 sector so it would be a waste of efforts if I got taken off and put on standby (I hate standbys). But the lady told me no other flights already and told me she would give me an off day so I immediately agreed haha. Who wouldn't like an extra off day?
So China flights really aren't that bad actually (maybe 'cos I speak Chinese so I don't feel alien onboard) but I wasn't really expecting a smooth flight still.
When we arrived at the gate ready to board the aircraft, we saw a bunch of kids waiting outside. For a moment I was experiencing mixed feelings on whether this was a good or bad idea after all. Kids shouldn't be too nasty as passengers right?
I was wrong. So wrong.
Kids nowadays are really super rude. I tried to be nice on ground to them and talked to them like they were my siblings. They were still joking about not being able to reach the call bell but right after takeoff, the call bells kept coming. Asking for tea, for earpiece, for help to watch movies, why they can't use Youtube =.=
So anyway I was S3 so I started service from the front and had no interactions with the kids. I heard from the teacher-in-charge that the youngest was only 13 years old. And guess what? They were not done with us. Next was inflight duty free sales, and holy, these kids are loaded!
All the sales came from them and I am totally wowed by how they had absolutely no qualms about buying a $45 Clinique lip gloss just because their lips feel dry. One bought an Elizabeth Arden handcream, another bought a keychain, and another two bought tote bags. Most of the time they'd ask to pay in yuan which I believe was given to them by their parents for their 6-day exchange programme in CTU. Spending the money before even reaching the destination? Something I would highly not recommend.
Then they continued asking for refill for drinks and even pressing the call bell just to ask us to throw a piece of used tissue. Seriously we are not that free. Not even the other passengers will ask that of us.
Two of the most ridiculous requests which I got when I found it intolerable was asking me to pick her pen from the floor when she has her seatbelt fastened because she can't reach the ground; and asking me to pick up the peanuts she dropped on the floor.
Seriously, kids?
So we thought sending this kids off was a burden taken away. Drama on the coming back sector again.
Passenger at 6D was traveling alone and since meal service he only ate a cup noodle and a bottle of white wine. Since then he asked for white wine non stop (don't forget how far 6C is from out galley) and I sure walked a few kilometres just to pass those wines to him.
And a message to all travelers out there: you get drunk easier than usual when in air, so please don't drink more than what you can hold. Before I gave 6D his wine I made sure he looked fine before I proceeded. Towards the end of the flight (about his 6th bottle) he started pressing the call bells too frequently and so I decided to report the timeline below:
*event timeline starts when he gets slightly tipsy*
*presses call bell*
I grabbed a glass of water and headed out.
As I was walking down, he turned to look at me, and reset the call bell, then activate it again. Twice.
(he was basically playing with the call bell)
As I approached him, he asked to clear an empty bottle of white wine.
I made sure to check if he needed anything else but he said no.
Just as I left him to head back to the galley, he pressed the call bell again.
"one white wine please." *ultimate roll eye*
So I walked back to get the wine and pass back to him.
Checked again if he needed anything else, no.
He pressed the call bell again when I reached my galley. My cic answered the call bell.
He asked her how long more before we land.
He pressed the call bell AGAIN. I attended to him.
He said 6C needed something, but when I asked, 6C said no. (fyi they are not traveling together)
He insisted. 6C insisted too.
When he realized he was wrong, he shut me up by asking me not to disturb his rest.
He pressed the call bell again. Asked me where is the lady beside him.
(now at this moment I was starting to freak out. what lady?)
He ignored me again when I told him there was no one seated beside him.
Then we proceeded to land. And according to my colleagues, he managed to walk of the aircraft perfectly...
Yet another day of drama in the air. Case closed.

Does PKU exist?
08 March 2017 // Wednesday
Short and sweet Pekanbaru (PKU) today! More importantly flying with my favourite cic after so long!
Its my first PKU since I started flying about more than a year ago and all of us seriously have no idea about the actual service sequence. My cic said her last PKU was 6 years ago the first inaugural flight!
So I was the second senior and cic let us choose our positions, she requested either the most senior or me work with her in jcl. The most senior chose to work behind so I took S1. More than happy to work with my cic!
When S2 reported her meals, she told us that it was muffins for both ways. Going up was oatmeal chocolate chip muffin, but guess the coming back menu?
Mushroom onion muffins. What a weird combination!
So the last time I flew with this cic was right before her wedding and we were discussing about her wedding plans throughout the whole overnight flight. Same goes for this flight, now that her big day is over, she shared with me her experience since mine is upcoming as well!
Such a pleasant surprise to find out we touched down an hour before schedule! Since I was so early, Hubby was kinda late on picking me so he was still on the way when I exited into Arrival Hall, whereas my cic's hubby was already there to pick her!
PKU was generally a very short flight, almost as short as KL. We had three air marshals onboard and for the firsts sector an additional staff, and on the way back, two individual passengers.
When we were doing boarding at PKU, both my jcl passengers were late in checking in and hence late in boarding. When he stepped in to the aircraft he started yelling and questioning why were the ground staff blaming him for arriving late when he's early for the flight? Well the flight departs 6.30pm but gate closes at 6.15pm so arrving at 6.12pm on the aircraft isn't exactly very early. Of course I didn't argue with him but instead went on to offer him drinks, newspapers, and magazines. He rejected me and headed to the toilet while muttering how annoyed he was and not forgetting to yell at me in between sentences.
When he exited the toilet and went back to his seat, I politely asked him if he would like to have sandwiches after take off but got hollered at again. He was extremely annoyed that he was rushed at the airport and refused to calm down. He wasn't satisfied with the sandwich choice, but grumpily settled for the egg mayo croissant.
As my cic was about to offer towels to him I warned her of him seated at 1C. As I peeked from behid the galley curtains to see if everything went well, I was surprised to see this passenger annoyingly staring at my cic as she gave the towels but choosing to keep quiet and just taking the towels. He looked as if he was about to criticize again, but I guess he took back his words upon seeing that the crew serving him wasn't me but in fact, a RED crew.
CICs all wear red while we wear blue and honestly, many passengers are "colour-blinded". I can say the same thing a thousand times yet passengers won't listen, but as long as the cic appears and tell them the exact same thing they get consoled right away. I don't get this?
Anyway, its just another nasty passenger. What's new today?

Standby Not Called Up!
07 March 2017 // Tuesday
So I am on fullday standby (SBYFULL) today from 0900h - 2359h (which is extremely long yes) and therefore the chances of getting called up is usually quite high. Today was no exception.
I woke up at around 9am and pleasantly found no missed calls on my phone so I headed back to sleep. At 9.45am I was awakened by my ringing phone and unpleasantly found MIOCC calling me. Missed the call and caught a few winks before returning their call within 15mins (a serious lapse if I did not do so).
He wanted to activate me for Chongqing (CKG) but reporting was at 11.15am which is quite rush for me since I don't exactly live very close to the airport. He was worried I couldn't make it too so he told me to remain on standby. *chuckles inside*
Washed up and Hubby came over to pick me to his place so we could have lunch and watch movies together. Just as I packed lunch and got into the car, MIOCC called again and I missed it! I was on the way to his place to have my chicken rice and kuay chup and no I don't want to go for flight! I was already treating it as my off day and we were just discussing about having Swee Choon for dinner.
So I called back eventually at 12noon where he asked me to report to aircraft at 2.15pm but honestly I told him it was a little rush for me still since I take about 45mins to reach airport and at least 30mins to prepare, on top of that I just bought my lunch :( I was actually at jurong side but I didn't tell him that. I asked for a slightly later flight but he said he did not have any so he told me to remain on standby (yes!).
I never heard from them again.
Took a nap about 2pm after we had lunch and when I woke up at 4pm seeing no missed calls I kinda think I'm free for the day. But still to be safe my phone was still on ringing mode but the moment the clock hit 7pm I turned my phone to silent and we headed out for dim sum dinner. Standby not called for the first (or second) time for me!!

Fight of Love: Maldives
05 March 2017 // Sunday
So this is officially my first Male flight since I started flying more than a year ago. It is a super draggy flight, from reporting at 9am then touching down at 9pm... Male on Sunday is never a nice thing.
But thankfully my batchboy swapped flight to be on this flight with me! It wasn't that bad a flight after all.
But as expected the flight was full of couples going on honeymoon in Maldives. There were 8 honeymoon cake requests and so I decided to go the extra mile to prepare special drinks for them too. There were all kinds of couples on this flight; Korean couples, Japanese couples, Chinese couples and more. It is sweet to see them on honeymoon and wonder when will be mine haha.
When we arrived at Male the ground staff told us that we might stop flying to Male and it is kinda a good news because this flight is so hard to do usually. Passengers would complain about the lack of amenities and service onboard when they compare to another similar airline.
But we wonder how true is the news? Glad to be back home safely.

India flight or what?
04 March 2017 // Saturday
Start of a new week and I'm doing Siem Reap (REP) today. Was supposed to be on amsby today but there was a dinner so I requested for a flight that comes back early.
When I checked the special meals, I was shocked because there was 14 Hindu meals (HNML) ad 14 Indian Vegetarian meals (AVML). Am I on a Cambodia flight or India flight??
And I just had to be S3... There were two other stewards so cic said be nice and let them work together. The other most senior crew was working at jcl. Cannot decide how to serve the special meals...
So in the end I still had to serve all myself. Kept counting and double checking to make sure I didn't serve the wrong passengers.
Anyway my cic was very nice she came down to help us for both sectors. REP is officially my favourite flight. Comfortable enough to finish service and have our meals before preparing for landing. Not as long and draggy as WUH but not as rushing at a HKT.
Male tomorrow T_T

Side Orders Queen
02 March 2017 // Thursday
Last day of three days! Hubby sent me to work very early so I had time to eat breakfast at Mac while playing Tsum Tsum haha.
Went to briefing room early and realized I cannot check load so I called MIOCC. And they confirmed that our first sector is zero load because it was a chartered flight from Langkawi (LGK) back to SIN! So basically we were just flying the aircraft there and picking the passengers up. It was great news because it means we're only working for one sector but paid for both!
So on the way up we all sat in Jcl and had our meals while playing charades and before we knew it we were landing! We landed at 1150h and commenced boarding at 1200h but can you believe it our boarding lasted 45min? These German passengers are taking their own sweet time to board and take pictures outside the aircraft. They are probably on a company trip because there is one tour guide in charge and they were all wearing the same Wrutch lanyard.
So this is my first flight where it is monoclass (meaning there is only one class of passengers) so as S1 I do not have any duties during service so we agreed that I'd standby at the back for side orders instead of having S2 running here and there. But can you imagine doing 50 side orders? Oh my I never stopped running up and down for coke, diet coke, beer, milk and other side orders. Even had to run for hot wraps! Not complaining because I enjoy doing this more than interacting with passengers haha. Call me side orders queen haha. Even my crew agreed I was pretty quick in doing the side orders.
So anyway before we know it we were landing!! And that's it for the day bye guys I'm going for my off day :D

Every Passenger makes a Difference
01 March 2017 // Wednesday
Day 2 today! Manado is a long flight but we're all excited 'cos we get to buy the sedap fish and rice from there!
I was S1 today and although the load was full both ways and company is so bad enough to give us surveys for both sectors, it was still a pretty good flight since our passengers were nice.
1A on the going up sector kept staring at me whenever I am in the cabin and he kept smiling too so I gave him one survey. Turned out he was very satisfied with our inflight service and even complimented me. Cic then told me to pass him a proper feedback form and he gladly agreed to fill it up. He said he love filling up such forms haha.
I passed him a bag of some souvenirs from onboard and offered him another drink. He asked for beer so I asked for his preference for Tiger or Heineken. He did the tiger paw purring action and gave a cute wink. Hahahaha so funny and I held my laughter till I reached the galley.
My other passengers who filled my survey were super cute too. One of them drew me and my cic on the survey and the other compliment us too!
When we arrived at Manado we collected the fishes and omg we bought so many! It was a sumptuous dinner for me and Hubby that night.

Last working day tomorrow! Leggo
Never-ending KL
28 February 2017 // Tuesday
A short KL today to end the month of February!
Really such a short flight that I cannot really remember what happened... all I can recall is that all of us were saying how any flight makes us tired, even if it is a KL.
Take off was pretty long from Singapore since the weather was pretty bad. Captain said he might turn on the seatbelt sign throughout the flight which means we won't have to serve hot drinks but end up he didn't...
On ground in KL when I offered jcl pax the arrival cards for Singapore passenger at 1D asked me for a pen which I gave from my pen pocket. My pen pocket is supposed to fit only one pen that is visible but I hide 2 more inside. So when the passenger at 1F also asked me for a pen I pushed the second pen from inside my pocket out and passed it to her. The passenger at 1D appeared so shocked and was about to laugh while asking me, "how many pens have you got in there?" Hahaha.
That's all for today folks! Day 2 of 3 tomorrow.
