28 December 2016 // Wednesday
So it's a short KUL for me today. Its my first of three days, with USM and three-sector Davao-Cebu (DVO-CEB) following.
Hubby sent me to work as usual and I actually woke up late so I arrived sightly later. cic called for briefing 10 minutes early and whispered to us that the cic of PNH flight asked for help because they were down by one crew and their load was almost full. To be honest our load was pretty manageable even if we were down by one crew, but just as our cic guessed, nobody would actually wanna do a longer flight in exchange for KUL.
So nobody swapped flights. Hehe.
Load was 80+ and 60+ which was manageable but on the way back there was this Filipino family occupying Row 5 and 6 which totally complements my title today. When they first boarded their faces were already blacker than coal. The mum at 5E boarded with her infant still in the infant harness, in which I reminded her immediately once she sat down to remove the harness before I would issue her an infant seat belt.
Due to safety reasons, infant safety harness is not allowed onboard due to the parent's inability to brace for impact with their infant during emergency situations.
So, in response to my statement, she simply stared back at me and continued her conversation with her husband at 5D. I walked away to give her buffer time.
Once all passengers are boarded, I reminded her again but found her feeding her infant milk from the bottle. Yet again she gave me a stare, ignored me and continued to feed her infant milk. I carried on with my other duties before returning to her. By then cic has already closed the aircraft door and I had no more time to spare for her. I told her I needed her to remove the harness immediately and she glared at me and said something to her husband in a very annoyed tone (which I don't understand of course).
Okay, tolerate.
Then I asked the other mum seated at 5B (prolly her sister or her friend) to place her bag (Louis Vuitton) up in the overhead compartment for take off and landing. She simply looked at her bag and told me, "ok", and expected me to put her bag up for her.
Fine, tolerate.
For your information, cabin crew are no longer required to lift passenger bags for the safety of us.
This kid at 6A was wearing her headphones when I checked the cabin to prepare for takeoff and I kindly asked her to remove it. She removed her right ear and put her right earpiece in, right in front of my eyes! Oh my god chill chill. I repeated what I said to her, and she stared at me and angrily removed both sides of her earpiece.
Enough of this family.
One family is enough to spoil my day.
Day 2 tomorrow. #kohsamui

A little effort goes a long way
26 December 2016 // Monday
Happy Boxing Day people! It was a USM for me today.
I was called up at round 5am and hubby sent me to work. To my pleasant surprise, I realized that my cic was my trainer! 99.9% I will be S1, I could foresee.
And so I was right haha. A good chat with her throughout the flight. On the first sector I went to help Economy (EY) after I was done with my Business Class (JCL) and omg it was a whole load of hell.
When we just started collection at Row 5, Captain already made the announcement to check cabin for landing! To our utmost horror, we started collecting the trays at full speed and we looked like monkeys. Even the passengers were scrambling to help us stack the plastic cups (so embarrassing).
But phew! Captain mentioned that he prepared early because there was weather ahead... But well, that was a hell of a shock!
Then again back to my topic today, Captain is such a nice guy. First he stood outside the cockpit while making his welcome announcement so that all passengers can see him. He bought Garett popcorn for us too!
He then went on to tell us about the story on his flight yesterday, where he placed the engine key in the seat pocket where a child will be seated. He then made an announcement when all passengers are onboard that he could not find the key and asked passengers to look for it on behalf of it.
The little boy ran up to the cockpit and passed the key to Captain in which he passed the boy some chocolates to thank him. How nice to spend a Christmas flight like this!
Few more days left to 2017, have a blast guys!

Aog on Xmas Eve??
24 December 2016 // Saturday
Merry Christmas Eve!
I was supposed to be doing Kota Kinabalu (BKI) that touches down about 2+ in the afternoon but MIOCC changed my flight to Koh Samui (USM) which touch down slightly later at 3 and I am annoyed. They changed at 9pm but didn't bother to call me to verify until 5am? Seriously, I needed my sleep.
USM flight uses A319 so the full load is just 120, which is considered "chicken feet" since we are already used to Boeing B737's capacity of 150. When we reach USM, the engineer who was already there bought us pizza!
Captain was a joker and he made a joke "there's a hole in the wing let's aog" ohhhh noooo please I don't want to aog on Christmas eve what a sad story (even thought the villa is very pretty and huge!)
So yes guys, I am safely back in Singapore and all ready for my family's Christmas gathering!
Let the Christmas bells ring!

23 December 2016 // Friday
Phuket today. 12/150 on the first sector is so rushing. And we were only up till S4.
Fairly good flight, but with 4 infants on the way up and 9 infants on the way back. Are we running a nursery or something?
But it was a pleasant surprise when I heard my name as a passenger called out to me! Kath, my ex-boss from Shangri-La, was on my flight back from Phuket! Together with her partner Garett and their newborn baby girl. It was a pretty short flight and I didn't have much time to chat with her but we managed to take a photo in the arrival hall!
Dinner at home with my hubby and my family. Can't wait for tomorrow to be over already.

22 December 2016 // Thursday
That's the greeting for flights to Cambodia (Siem Reap/Phnom Penh).
Rostered for Siem Reap (REP) today. Flight number was supposed to be MI616 and MI615 for returning, however there was a change in my first sector flight number. It was changed to MI8164 (which is a chartered flight) but returning as MI615. We were all confused but nonetheless went ahead with the flight. *more on this later*
And so our aircraft was delayed from KUL and so we only managed to commence boarding at the scheduled departure time 12.55pm. Needless to say the passengers were all pretty peeved, especially the tour leader who "claimed" they paid a fair bit for this charter flight.
Yeah of course we know, we're not paid for delays too. Why would I want to delay the flight and face 150 grumpy passengers for 2 hours? #makesenseright
So anyway we were anticipating a pretty bad flight, but to our surprise, the passengers were all really nice!
One passenger at 8D told me during collection, that he love our ice cream and we are now his new favourite airline. Another at 10C told me that the fish was delicious and asked me about how we prepare the food.
The couple at 12AB were the nicest. They stopped me during collection and said the following to me.
"You guys are simply amazing. I mean, we are so impressed! We fly on Singapore Airlines pretty often, and even on British Airlines Business Class, and I would have to say they can't compare to you guys."
How heartwarming to hear that :)
I gave them a little souvenir and passed him a comment card (sneaky me) and told him if he'd like to send us feedback we'd be more than glad. He eventually passed me the comment card and winked at me as he said, "remember to send that in!"
Thank you sir, you made all our day so much better.
When we arrived at Siem Reap, we got to understand from the ground staff that today's flight number is a special arrangement and clarified all our doubts. Honestly, chartered or not, it doesn't really matter.
Returning flight was horror though. I couldn't find one of my last special meals and had a little panic attack with my partner manning cart with me. Well, I found it eventually. Hehe careless me.
And then one passenger was feeling unfair that her vegetarian meal requested is not on board (this happens for a few reason WHICH I'm gonna skip). Offered her alternatives but she wasn't convinced, arguing that she paid "alot" and she deserve something better. My cic offered her crew salad and, she was grinning from ear to ear and even joked to me, "don't I look greedy!"
No ma'am, you don't. You look cheapskate.
Oh wells, that's not all. This one-of-a-kind lady at 5A decided to stop me to complain about the family with kids behind her, saying all sorts of nasty things like they are rude, ill-mannered, and requested for me to tell them off.
Of course I was not going to get involved in all these. So I acknowledged her and walked off. During meal service I requested for her to put her seat upright so passengers behind can have their meals, she simply refused. "Why can't he move? I have my rights!"
Just as I was about to insist, the father of the family seated at row 6 tapped me lightly and whispered, "forget it, let's not argue with someone uncivilized."
How nice of him. Conclusion: The nicer one in an argument wins.
Pretty eventful flight. To think its only my first day of three day work pattern.
On a side note, January roster is out and if you see my Instagram, I am crying yet counting my blessings over dinner with my fiance.
Not looking forward to a full HKT tomorrow.
Goodnights!

Sawadeekaaa
20 December 2016 // Tuesday
Welcome to Chiang Rai Ladies and Gentlemen :)
So as I mentioned yesterday, I was called up for this chartered flight and as expected... it was dreadful.
Full load both ways... most senior at the back... it was a hell of a flight.
A passenger even ask me during meal service, "My nose is feeling pain because the air too dry. How ah?"
How ah? I stood there and tried to recall all my first aid knowledge to see what I can do but I couldn't recall anything...
Went to ask my cic, she also laughed. "Ask her put moisturizer lah!" Hahaha. Weird requests I get onboard sometimes.
Took a tour around the airport because we has to get our passports checked. Such an experience!

Week 51.1 of 52
19 December 2016 // Monday
Yet another new week guys! Counting down to the end of 2016 still...
Had a great weekend because I had both days off! Haha needless to say it is a pretty rare occurance since I joined Silkair.
Monday today; the start of another new week. Kuala Lumpur (KUL) flight today was short and sweet, load was "swee" too :)
心里 OS: 如果每天都像今天这样该多好啊~
Dinner at Crystal Jade with family. Food can never go wrong on anyday!
Well anyways, was on full day standby (FULLSBY) tomorrow but MIOCC called me up for a chartered flight (argh roll eyes).
Going to land of "sawadee" tomorrow... See you tomorrow Chiang Rai!
P.S. Chiang Rai is CEI hehehehe
#kthxbye #goodnight #aviationterminology

Chapter 348 of 365: 2016 Edition
15 December 2016 // Thursday
Counting down to the end of 2016...
October 26th this year marked my one year in Silkair. 2016 has been a crazy year for me, finally for the first time (the irony) spreading my wing to fly, just as I've always wanted to. Meeting people who enter your life out of nowhere and suddenly mean the whole world to you.
To all my readers out there: I am engaged!!
Opened my safari on my iPhone and chanced upon this page which wasn't closed since "I don't know when" and it triggered the curiosity in me and I decided to peek through what was the story told here.
Oh boy, how it did trigger my passion to start blogging again!
So here I am, trying to start (yet) another new beginning. It has all become easier now because I've finally replaced my laptop which probably spent three years rotting on the shelf (it was dead already). Got my new laptop so I guess it will be much easier for me to blog!
I was never a good English speaker/writer (or whatsoever) but reading back what I wrote amazes me as to what writing can do to someone. I would just like to continue this little hobby of mine to past time and share the littlest things I experience onboard.
Anyways, I'm bound for an evening Medan (KNO) flight tonight so gotta go get ready! Will update this post again after my flight!
Ta-da!
*****
Back from flight and finally home after a nice hot shower :)
Flight was good. Hubby picked me from work and on the way out from airport, there was a massive jam! A 7-car pile up in the middle lane was holding up the traffic towards the city. It was so extreme that one of the car had its rear on the car behind him! I reminded hubby to be safe since he is always on the road. Everyone please be safe :)
That's all for tonight, gonna turn in already! Doing Coimbatore (CJB) overnight flight tomorrow :(

Survival 101
06 April 2016 // Wednesday
So I was on SBY today and I asked for flight yesterday night actually but MIOCC told me that he didn't have flights for me yet. I actually hate cases like this because I can't sleep in peace thinking that they will call me in the middle of the night.
Ps. Not answering MIOCC's call on your SBY is a serious lapse.
So I woke up at around 7.45am but didn't see any calls from them. The next moment as I tried to fall back to sleep they call me and activated me for a three-sector Danang-Siem Reap (DAD-REP) flight in the afternoon.
But that would affect my Dili (DIL) flight next day... So they took me off and put me on SBY duration.
CIC was one of the Top few famous ones... But I flew with her once before so I wasn't worried.
But oh well, bad days happen. She spotted a few of my mistakes in a row and almost wanted to write me in. Thank god for my crew who put in a good word for me, my CIC said she'll give me a chance.
But then again it wasn't major mistakes it was just... I was unlucky that she spotted them.
Not forgetting on the returning sector for REP to SIN, this young teenage lady and her Caucasian Dad seemed to be discussing about me while I was doing boarding. When I approached them to see if I could help with anything, her Dad replied, "Oh nothing much, my daughter was just commenting how pretty you were."
Thank you for praising me when I felt the worse.

Overnight Torture
03 April 2016 // Sunday
So I'm rostered for Hyderabad (HYD) overnight today... And it's definitely a torture haha.
But our load wasn't too bad.Service was done quite quickly and we had rest time on the way back.
But I had a headache towards the end and almost fell asleep.
As usual, overnight flights were more relaxed but surprisingly, we had no whiskey orders on this India overnight (which usually was a norm)!
Arrival was the next day so needles to say I went straight home and fell into a deep coma :)

02 April 2016 // Saturday
If you've seen my previous post, I mentioned that today's HKT flight was all my batch mates.
However, I knew there won't be such good things in the world. I got a call from Crew Scheduling (MIOCC) asking me to change to another flight Phnom Penh (PNH) with another of my batch mate.
It sure was disappointing that the four of us could not fly together but now that I have another batch mate with me on PNH it doesn't sound too bad either.
When we checked the load, we were glad to find out that PNH's load was half of HKT's! Which means it was a good thing that we changed flights hehe.
Although it wasn't really full, our Crew-in-Charge (CIC) was nice enough to help us during service.
It was generally a good flight! Short flight so nothing much to blog about.
Cheers!

New Beginnings
01 April 2016 // Friday
It has been almost six months since my last post and I sincerely apologize. The initial plan to update my blog daily on my training and flying life was too intense for me to catch up.
No doubt these past five months indeed a lot has happened and by not updating them here there's a lot of interesting matters missed out. But nonetheless I shall attempt to continue updating (to the best I can).
So my batch have just ended three days of English Announcement class and today is our off day. I'm on standby (SBY) tomorrow so awaiting a flight to be assigned to me.
They gave me a Phuket (HKT) flight later in the afternoon but when I checked the crew names, I was pleasantly greeted with a set of crew with all my batch mates! This is a one in a million possibility and we were all excited for the flight tomorrow!
Watch here to find out more about our flight tomorrow!
