What a joke: BLR edition

27 January 2017 // Friday

Happy cny eve! So I was supposedly rostered for Xiamen (XMN) today because I requested for a long China flight that comes back before 6pm so I can have reunion dinner with my family. But one crew asked to take her Bangalore (BLR) so she could fly with her batchmate.

It is pretty hard to fly with your batchmate but I was really reluctant to change a China for India... Until I saw the scheduled time of arrival. It was almost an hour earlier! My XMN was supposed to touch down at 1745h but BLR arrives at 1650h. And to add on, China has much higher possibility of delay.

So I did BLR instead! Its my first BLR since my training days (ya believe it or not I was not rostered this flight at all for a year) so I really wasn't sure what to expect. One crew took mc last minute so we were only down to S4. But to our greatest surprise, the load was too good to be true! 80+ going up and 60+ coming back! We really haven't seen such good load since like December.

So everything was generally good, not as bad as the usual India overnights. But we had a hilarious encounter onboard.

After taking off we realized that there was no hot water from the dispenser or the coffee boiler. We couldn't figure out why until we figured out that the water valve must be closed somehow. We tried looking for the water valve but couldn't find it (we only could recall where the switch was at for Airbus but we were using Boeing for this flight). So we gave up looking for the valve and decided to head to the forward to get hot water instead. It was a hell lot of inconvenience for us but what to do? We decided to get the engineer to fix it when we arrive at BLR.

But the engineer that came onboard had absolutely no idea where the water valve was. He was searching high and low for it and even asked us where the valve was at. (Oh of course we wouldn't need you if we could find it you know)

So he eventually took so long until my cic decided to call for boarding and told him to forget about finding the valve. Midway through our flight to Singapore, S2 found the valve at a very significant spot while bending down to get something. And we turned it on and, alas water was flowing! Three of us couldn't believe our eyes that none of us managed to see the valve (it was not even hidden).

We had a good laugh at ourselves. Happy cny everyone and enjoy your reunion!
